The productivity barriers can be categorized into two main groups. You may feel lethargic throughout the day which is bound to affect productivity. Also if the task at hand does not interest you in any way, chances are that productivity will be affected.
Employee-employer disputes – If you have had some issues with your employer, productivity may be adversely affected. Not only this but if there is a lack of trust between the two parties and they cannot communicate openly, productivity levels will go down substantially. It becomes difficult to concentrate on work when such differences exist in an office.
Lack of authority – When employees feel that they lack the power or control to get their work done, productivity levels suffer adversely at workplace. It is important for an employee to have some degree of freedom and independence in order to be productive. However if this right has been taken away from them by their superiors, productivity will go down.
Nepotism and favoritism – This productivity barrier may come up in a workplace where nepotism and favoritism rules the roost to an extent that merit takes a back seat. If people with less experience are being promoted over those who have been working for long, productivity levels will go down as they lack necessary skills to perform the job.
Lack of motivation – If you are not motivated or enthusiastic about your work, productivity can decrease significantly. Lack of focus – If you cannot stay focused and concentrate on your work throughout the day, productivity levels will go down substantially. Productivity has a direct connection with focus as if you do not focus on your work and keep getting distracted, productivity levels will be affected.
Lack of determination – If you do not have the necessary determination to complete a task or get your job done, productivity can go down significantly at workplace. Determination is important for employees as they need to put in extra effort if they lack certain skills so as to complete their job in a time-bound manner.
Lack of confidence – If you lack the confidence necessary for your work, productivity will go down adversely at workplace. You may consider yourself unfit for certain tasks and this can affect productivity levels substantially as it is difficult to achieve targets when one lacks self-confidence.
