Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is quite a popular term which garners and commands the attention of developers and entrepreneurs. It is an important aspect in a digital world filled with information. How do you get your information on the top of search results OR prioritize it more for others? The answer is SEO.

A Brief Intro - SEO

We live in a world where it is estimated that 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created on any given day. Quintillion is 1 followed by 18 zeros. 1000000000000000000. That is a staggering amount of information created daily.

Probably you are a business owner or a blogger or probably a student who has a website online. This website might have information related to your company or posts or academic information and might be important.

These days, if we have to find anything, we just Google for it.

What is Googling? It is searching for information. And we type in our query, and we get results.

How does the search engine know which information should be on the top of the list of search results? There are about 200 ranking factors which Google takes into consideration when prioritizing information.

Did you know that the top search result has more visitors than the next 8 results?

How would the information on your website reach the people whom you intend to serve?

You might have guessed by now why Search Engine Optimization is such a big deal.

Because it drives traffic. And traffic means business.

Now that you know the importance of SEO, what do you do next?

Optimization

Optimization is the key word here. Google defines it as, "the action of making the best or most effective use of a situation or resource."

When applied to Search Engines, it implies how Google takes the action of making effective use of information prioritization.

How Do You Optimize Your Website/Content?

There are several ways to do optimize. Let's use our common sense to understand what it means to optimize something.

  1. We have to bring about the best results within given constraints.
  2. The way to optimize includes thinking what is necessary and what is redundant.
  3. To decide what we want to achieve.
  4. Set goals and milestones.
  5. It includes focusing on the key aspects and then building on those key aspects.
  6. To actively engage in removing what is blocking our vision, our goals and our thoughts.
  7. To make processes efficient, by tweaking the steps and constantly iterating and refining the processes.
  8. To understand assumptions, limitations, constraints, and loopholes.
  9. To figure out ways to fix those vulnerabilities, loopholes, be aware of assumptions and think out of the box for dealing with constraints. Set new reference frames.
  10. To finally have a strategy in place and execute it with precision, while focusing on excellence.

Same principles apply to SEO.
